Fresh extensions are available in Vulkan version 1.3.302.
Back in the summer of 2019, we wrote about the Khronos Group working on video encoding and decoding extensions to the Vulkan API, and at the end of 2022, the Vulkan Video 1.0 API was ready, which has been constantly evolving and is up to date. included extensions for H.264, HEVC and AV1 decoding, as well as the possibility of encoding the former two formats.
Khronos Group has now announced the availability of AV1 encoding. Thanks to this development, if a graphics controller has a suitable Vulkan implementation, including support for new extensions, it is essentially possible to speed up the encoding of the specified formats, even without the specific development environment of the manufacturers. The required new extensions were released in Vulkan version 1.3.302.
