Ukraine can hit Russian territory with ATACMS missiles, the White House confirms
Ukraine used long-range US-supplied ATACMS missiles to strike targets in Russia, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
Washington’s confirmation came days after reports that Kiev fired ATACMS missiles at a military installation in Karachev, Bryansk region. Western-made missile attacks were also reported in the Kursk region.
“Right now, they (Ukrainian soldiers) have the ability to use ATACMS to defend themselves in case of immediate need. It is understandable that this happened in and around Kursk,” said Kirby.
“We changed the orientations and gave them indications that they can use them to hit these specific types of targets.”
The Ukrainians build fortifications around the city of Zaporozhye
According to the Ukrainian intelligence structures, Russia would prepare for a large-scale attack on the city of Zaporozhye, which is 30 km from the front. It is not entirely clear when this attack could take place, but it seems inevitable, as one of the three Ukrainian industrial centers in the country is located in the city, and Ukrainians consider it vital to the functioning of the state, so the Russians could try to occupy it.
Thus, the Ukrainians plant mines in the ground, put obstacles and build structures made of concrete and iron, somewhat stronger than those installed in the Donetsk province. But not all Ukrainian commanders believe that Russia could attack Zaporozhye. Colonel Oleskii Khilchenko, the commander of the Spartan brigade, recently deployed in Zaporozhye, believes that Russia is concentrating on other areas of the front, as it would have sent two divisions near Zaporozhye for an attack, but half of them were withdrawn from the area and sent in Kursk.
