Russian forces “failed to prevail” across the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal in the town of Chasiv Yar, said Anastasia Bobovnikova, spokeswoman for the Luhansk Operational Tactical Group, according to the Kyiv Independent.

Bobovnikova’s comments came after multi-source monitoring site DeepState reported on October 17 that Russian forces had advanced into Chasiv Yar.

“I do not confirm that Russian troops managed to gain a foothold in the channel … or anywhere in the direction of Chasiv Yar,” Bobovnikova said.

“The overall strategic position of the city remains under the control of Ukraine.”
