The war against the Hamas movement in Gaza will continue at full pressure until the Israeli hostages are released.
This is what the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Thursday evening after it was confirmed that Israeli soldiers had killed Yahya Sinwar, leader of Hamas.
“Today we settled. Today, evil has been dealt a major blow, but our task is still not complete,” he says in a video speech.
“To the dear hostage families, I say: This is an important moment in the war. We will continue at full blast until all your loved ones, our loved ones, are home’.
The Prime Minister calls on the militant hostage-takers in the Gaza Strip to release their hostages.
He entices that Israel will not kill hostage-takers who release hostages.
“The war is not over yet,” he asserts.
“Whoever lays down his arms and releases hostages, we will allow to live,” Netanyahu said, according to AFP.
Netanyahu goes on to say that the time when Hamas rules Gaza is over.
“Hamas will no longer rule Gaza. This is the beginning of the post-Hamas day, and it is an opportunity for you, the people of Gaza. You can finally break free from tyranny,” says Netanyahu, according to the Times of Israel.
He continues:
“Sinwar ruined your lives. He told you he was a lion, but in reality he was hiding in dark caves. And he was killed while fleeing in panic from our soldiers’.
Israel considers Sinwar to be the mastermind behind the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Then Hamas entered Israel from the Gaza Strip and killed 1,200 people.
Another 250 were taken to Gaza as hostages.
Some of the hostages are dead, others have been set free.
But according to Israeli media, there are still 101 hostages in the Gaza Strip. It is not known how many are alive.
