If I overlook the cathedral of Pietrasanta and on one of the most beautiful squares in Italy the starting situation of this is decidedly suggestive apartment with a surface of 70 mq it wasn’t as congenial. «We had dealing with a rather dark interior, with the living room lit by only one window», they say from Emme Pi architecturea studio based in the picturesque Tuscan town. The project included a complete renovation of the interiors, taken care of at every stage, from construction management to custom-made furniture, up to the selection of furnishings and accessories.
«We chose everything, even the cutlery», for the client, a Danish journalist, who followed the work remotely, leaving the designers carte blanche. The result is one holiday home «with simple lines, delicate to the eye, in which modern design combines with traditional elements, creating a welcoming environment”, divided into a living room with kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The property under protection did not allow changes to the structure or upheavals of the internal distribution for which the architects had the rightworked exclusively with colours, materials and furnishings.
For this reason the walls were deliberately left con the original plasterwith its imperfections and portions of frescoes. All vertical surfaces, including the wooden ceiling beams, were painted a “limestone” color. A bright color “that is not white”, as the designers specify, and which enhances the period fireplace. With a graphic and contained form, cont contributes to making the atmosphere warm and charming, like the floating PVC parquet which has replaced terracotta.
The rooms are furnished with refined but essential furniturecertainly in line with the landlord’s Nordic tastes. An example of this is the sofa in the living room with a soft shape in a pastel color, a mint that adds a touch of freshness; or, again, the custom-designed, well-organized kitchen with simple and functional lines. The lighting completes everything, featuring floor or wall lamps with a contemporary design and the works of art, supplied by MARCOROSSI contemporary art gallery.
