Prague – The water quality in some natural swimming pools has deteriorated since the beginning of the holidays. Hygienists found an increased amount of cyanobacteria and chlorophyll in the Brněnská Reservoir, and the water quality also deteriorated in the Babylon pond in Domažlicka and in Písník Bakov nad Jizerou in Mladoboleslavsk. In the Dlouhý pond in Orlickousteck, a ban on swimming was even announced again. On the other hand, it stopped paying in Osek in Teplice. This follows from the findings of ČTK regional reporters.
In the Dlouhý pond, which serves as a recreational facility for the residents of Lanškroun and the surrounding area, the swimming ban was already in effect once this year. Hygienists issued it for the first time on June 20, last week the water quality improved to the third level out of five. However, according to the latest sampling, the water is again heavily polluted by aquatic microorganisms. “It does not meet the hygiene requirements, the finding of cyanobacteria exceeded the third level of evaluation, there is a risk of acute damage to health,” regional hygienists warned. Lanškroun wants to solve the situation in the future, plans to start the construction of a biotope swimming pool in the fall.
Even the Rosnička pond in the Svitava region is not suitable for swimming. Although swimming in it is not directly prohibited, the water poses a health risk for potential visitors. It should especially be avoided by children, pregnant women, allergy sufferers and people with weakened immunity. Hygienists also rate the water at two places in the Orlicka dam in Píseck as unsuitable for swimming. It is about Podolsko and Radava.
In the Vysočina, swimming is still prohibited in the Sedlice reservoir in the Pelhřimovsk region and in the Ředkovec pond in the Havlíčkobrod region. Due to cyanobacteria and a greater amount of chlorophyll, the Břevnická reservoir near Chotěboř has a reduced rating. Vacationers should shower after swimming in it.
Hygienists noticed a deterioration in water quality during the last measurements in the Babylon pond in Domažlick. In the west of Bohemia, the Košuteck lake in Pilsen also has a long-term lower rating. At the same time, hygienists state that this assessment is a result of microbiological values from previous seasons.
In central Bohemia, the water in Písník Bakov nad Jizerou in Mladoboleslavsk and in Nové rybník near Příbram has deteriorated slightly. After Monday’s measurement, the hygienists rated it as three on a five-point scale. While the higher occurrence of cyanobacteria in Písník Bakov is a problem, Nový rybník is fine in terms of transparency and microbiological content. “But we have three unconfirmed cases of cercarial dermatitis reported there,” Luboš Mandík, head of the general and communal hygiene department for the Příbram district, told ČTK. Cercarial dermatitis is a disease caused by a parasite, manifested by reddening of the skin, rash and itching.
The water at all five swimming pools of the Brno Dam is still suitable for swimming. However, its quality has deteriorated since last week, tests have shown an increased occurrence of cyanobacteria and chlorophyll. Hygienists also noted a moderate occurrence of cyanobacteria in the reservoir in Letovice in Blanensko.
The high temperatures of the last few days did not benefit even some water reservoirs in the Moravian-Silesian Region. “Compared to last week, there was a slight deterioration in the water quality in the Olešná reservoir and the Těrlická dam reservoir,” said Aleš Kotrla, the regional hygienist’s spokesman. He added that the deteriorated water quality remains in the Pod hradom pond in Bohušov, and there is a higher amount of cyanobacteria in the Brušperk water reservoir.
On the contrary, it was possible to improve the water quality in the Osek natural swimming pool in Teplicka, which reopened today after a two-week break. Although swimming in it is associated with only a low risk of health complications, hygienists recommend that people take a shower after swimming.
