Pointing out that currently, when trying to buy animals for slaughter, producers have given up selling them with the expectation that the price will increase further, Tüfekçi stated that the curly lamb is slaughtered from animals between 8 and 14 months old.
Minced meat at the butcher costs 1,250 lira
Stating that carnabat curly lambs are raised in Çanakkale, Biga, Balıkesir and Tekirdağ regions, Tüfekçi said, “It is demanded by consumers because it is a thin-tailed sheep breed, its meat does not smell when cooked, and its meat is softer and more delicious. With the recent price hikes, the price per kilogram of bone-in curly lamb meat in butchers in Istanbul varies between 700 and 790 lira. “The price of curly lamb mince has increased to 1,150 to 1,250 lira,” he said.
The price of curly lamb is more expensive
Stating that curly animals do not grow in Anatolia, Karaman and Dağlıç sheep breeds are raised, Tüfekçi said, “The price of curly carcass was 470 liras last week. With the cuts made yesterday, the price of the curly carcass increased to between 510 and 540 lira, depending on its quality.

Butcher tradesmen turned to chain markets
Emphasizing that butcher tradesmen in Istanbul cannot compete with markets due to the Meat and Milk Institution’s (ESK) sale of discounted meat to chain markets, Tüfekçi stated that since the supplier of chain markets is the Meat and Milk Institution, there is a price gap between butchers and markets.
Noting that butcher customers have now shifted to markets, Tüfekçi said, “The loss of customers has decreased by more than 40 percent in the first 10 months since the beginning of the year. Prices of beef cubes and minced meat vary in butchers in Istanbul. The reason for this is the region where red meat comes from, Anatolia.
The price per kilogram of ground beef in butchers in Istanbul varies between 630 lira and 650 lira, depending on the quality of the meat. “The price per kilogram of beef cubed meat is between 650 and 680 liras,” he said. Tüfekçi, President of the Chamber of Butchers and Tradesmen, announced that both the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Commerce have launched an investigation against people who post on social media saying ‘do not slaughter your animals’. Tüfekçi reported that ministries took action against manipulations on social media.
