A battle of titans, legends and owners of the 46th Grand Slam titles. The latter awaits sports fans already on Monday, when Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will face each other in the 2nd round of the Olympic tennis tournament.

The Spanish tennis player made it to the 2nd round after defeating Márton Fucsovics from Hungary in three sets 6:1, 4:6, 6:4.

Thirty-eight-year-old Nadal had health problems before the Olympic tournament, which threatened his participation in Paris. Together with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, however, he succeeded in the first round of doubles and decided to enter the singles competition as well.

Nadal is looking forward to the match with Djokovic: “Of course it will be beautiful to play against one of my two biggest rivals that I have had in my career, especially on this court. But each of us is in a completely different situation. I haven’t played much in the past two years and I think he will be the clear favorite for this match.”

The long-awaited tennis classic between Djokovic and Nadal will most likely take place already on Monday. This was reported by the Clay tennis portal, citing sources from Nadal’s environment.

Later came the official confirmation from the organizers of the Olympic Games. Two legendary tennis players will cross rackets around 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Their duel is scheduled for the second on the main court of Philippe Chatrier in the Roland Garros complex. Before them, women’s world number one Iga Swiateková and Bian Perryová will compete in the 2nd round match.

Djokovic and Nadal will play against each other for the 60th time in their careers. Their last duel took place at the exact same place. At the French Open 2022, the Spaniard won 6:2, 4:6, 6:2, 7:6 in the quarterfinals.

Looking at the incredibly numerous balance of mutual matches, Djokovic is better off, having won 30 duels, one more than Nadal.
