Raisa Vieru, the wife of the late poet Grigore Vieru, died, announced on Saturday, October 27, the representatives of the Cathedral of Saint Teodora in Sihla, informs newsmaker.md.

According to the quoted source, the vigil service will take place on Sunday, at the Saint Teodora Cathedral in Sihla.

Raisa Vieru was born in the village of Ceamashir (Prioziornoe), which is now part of the Odesa region, Ukraine. She was a teacher of Romanian and Latin.

Raisa and Grigore Vieru got married in the summer of 1960. After the poet’s death, which occurred as a result of a serious road accident, in 2009, Raisa Vieru dedicated two volumes to him: “A disciple of Orfeu” and “Sunday man”.

On January 16, 2009, Grigore Vieru was returning from Cahul, where he had participated in a ceremony to honor the poet Mihai Eminescu. Near the town of Dănceni, Ialoveni district, the car the poet was in was involved in a serious road accident. Grigore Vieru was admitted to the Emergency Hospital in a very serious condition, with multiple internal fractures, and the next day, his health improved a little, when his kidneys started working and his blood pressure stabilized. However, on the night of January 18, at 01:30, the poet died, following a heart attack.
