Oops, what a waste. This is what happened to Hafina Eddy-Evans, a woman from Wales. He has told a shocking story about how he unknowingly threw away a hard drive worth a fortune.
The hard drive in question contained 8,000 bitcoins, the current value of which is a whopping 681 million euros. The value can, however, fluctuate rapidly
Owner of Bitcoins, Halfina’s ex-boyfriend James Howellsis now desperately trying to get permission to search the landfill for the lost hard drive.
How did it all happen?
Bitcoins were mined in 2009, when the value of cryptocurrency was still non-existent. Halfina says that she threw away the hard drive about ten years ago at James’ request. He says:
“Yes, I threw out his trash – at his own request. I didn’t know what was in the sack, but I took it to the dump on the way to school. He could have taken care of it himself, but I wanted to help,” says Hafina Daily Starin by.
James Howells believes that the digital key to his bitcoin fortune is on that hard drive. Now he’s trying to get permission from Newport City Council to dig up the hard drive from the huge landfill, where over the years it has been covered in 110,000 tons of waste and overgrown with grass.
“I don’t want his money”
Halfina is a mother of two children. She hopes that her ex-boyfriend will find the hard drive, although she herself does not want a share of the possible property.
“I hope he finds it because I’m tired of hearing about the whole thing. But part of me thinks she should just let it go and move on with her life. This is not good for his mental health.”
Howells’ requests have been repeatedly denied since 2013, but he hasn’t given up.
“He is the father of my children, but I don’t want his money. Maybe he should just accept that they are in the past.”
James Howells, on the other hand, continues his fight, hoping that one day he will be able to open the lost hard drive and gain access to the treasure hidden on it.
