The women’s national basketball team won a dominant victory over the best of the Philippines in the second round of the World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda. The formula is simple: to advance, you have to beat Brazil in the last round.

Hungary – Philippines 97-60 (23-14, 28-10, 24-20, 22-16)

The rival scored the first basket in the meeting, but after that, the Hungarian national team produced a 14-0 run, which increased its advantage to nine points by the end of the first quarter, and to 27 points by the break. The identity of the winning side was not a question in the continuation, the only difference was that the Hungarian team won a superior victory with 37 points.

In the first match of national team captain Péter Völgyi, the team lost by two points to Senegal (63-61) in a close match on Monday. The World Cup qualifier lasts until Sunday in Rwanda, where the Hungarians close the group stage against Brazil on Thursday.
The first two of the quartet advance to the knockout stage, the winner of the pre-qualifier will enter the World Cup qualifier, which will take place in March 2026. There are 16 national teams at the 2026 World Cup. Only 12 teams participated in the previous World Cup in 2022, which was hosted by Australia.
