women’s basketball, World Cup qualifier, group C, 1st round:
Senegal-Hungary 63-61 (20-16, 17-14, 7-12, 19-19)
the best pitchers of the Hungarian team: Dubei 24, Határ 10, Lelik 10
It was already visible in the first moments of the match that the Senegalese wanted to take advantage of their physical superiority against the Hungarian team, which in the first quarter already suffered a lot with the possession of the ball against the opponent who was defending the whole field. Several turnovers slipped into the game on the Hungarian side, despite this, the teams went head to head in the first eight minutes of the first quarter, thanks to the threes of Török, Dubei and Dombai. However, the opponent did better at the end of the period, so the ten minutes ended with Senegal leading 20-16.
The Hungarian team started the second period with a nice basket from Dubai, but in the following minutes, it became very windy in defense, and on the other side, it did not find a basket from its clean shooting positions, so the African team continuously increased its advantage, which swelled to 14 points by the middle of the period. The game of Péter Völgyi’s team seemed hopeless at that time, but Deborá Dubei’s managed to pull themselves together for the continuation and caught up to seven points by the break (30-37).
There was a glimmer of hope after the long break
Senegal started the second half again with a very tough, full-field defense and forced the Hungarian team into a lot of mistakes, which was unable to find the ring for three and a half minutes. Dubei broke the basketball silence with a 12-point deficit (30-42), and from here the picture of the section changed a lot.
The Senegalese were completely disintegrated in attack, while the Leliks defended excellently and although the team was still not great in attack, they gradually worked away their deficit and equalized 50 seconds before the end of the quarter (42-42). In the end, the last word went to the rival, but the Völgyi team was still in a particularly encouraging position before the last quarter (42-44).

However, despite the particularly encouraging game, the short break broke the momentum of the Hungarians, Senegal once again switched to an extremely tight defense and left their rival standing at the beginning of the final ten minutes, which was able to score its first basket in the fifth minute of the quarter – with a three-pointer from the outstanding Dubei – by this time again gained a respectable advantage against the Senegalese (42-54).
In the last five minutes, the Hungarians did their best to catch up with the Senegalese, Dubei and Lelik took the team on their backs in the hair, which reached 59-60 almost 15 seconds before the end, but then in the final game, the Senegalese took a good penalty, with which they won the opening match of the tournament.
