On Friday, the Hungarian women’s handball team defeated the Slovak team 38-31 in its penultimate preparation match before the European Championship, which starts on Thursday and is partly organized at home.

Preparation match:

Tatabánya, v.: Ádám Bíró, Olivér Bende Kiss (Hungarians)
shots/goals: 56/38 and 56/31

the Hungarian goal scorers: Simon 6, Szöllősi-Schatzl, Márton, Klujber 5-5, Kuczora, Vámos 4-4, Füzi-Tóvizi 3, Győri-Lukács, Faluvégi 2-2, Bordás, Kácsor 1-1

For the first time in ten years, the guests, who qualified for the European Championship, were able to gain an advantage of more than one goal (5-7), and after a quarter of an hour the Slovakian lead was still the same (8-10). After that, the home team in their new red shirt really got into the game, taking back the lead (13-11), and then also introduced a new player in the person of Nikolett Tóth. The Hungarian team played handball with a lot of inaccuracies, but under the leadership of Gréta Márton, who excelled on the left wing – who was later voted best of the match – he was still able to go into the dressing room with a lead for the break.

After a tighter-than-anticipated first half, the home defense rallied, and Blanka Böde-Bíró put in a good performance in goal. With the quick goals following possessions, in barely four and a half minutes, Vladimir Golovin’s team created by far the biggest difference (26-19) with a 6-0 series. From there, the national team of the northern neighbor caught up to two more goals (29-27), but could no longer threaten the Hungarian victory.

Golovin told MTI after the match: although there were inaccuracies and turnovers due to disagreements in attack, in this segment he basically saw what he wanted on the pitch. He believed that as soon as the players get used to it, these mistakes will also disappear. “Defensively, we weren’t very dynamic, but we have three hard days behind us with a lot of work done.”Even yesterday I felt that we were tired, it was visible in the defense, but overall everything is fine” – he evaluated.

He revealed that the defense was discussed during the break, and when it came together, it was easier for Blanka Böde-Bíró to defend. “In the second half, our performance at the back was fluctuating as well. I consider the 31 goals conceded to be a lot, but at the same time, I trust that the team’s performance will improve from game to game”
