Seoul ranked 42nd among the world’s 50 best urban travel destinations, and Cape Town, South Africa took first place.

On the 16th (local time), CNN introduced the world’s 50 best cities in 2025, citing global media and hotel company Time Out.

Cape Town, a city on South Africa’s southwestern coast, ranked first.

Time Out described Cape Town as “a place where you can visit an African penguin colony, taste world-class wine, take a walk on a beautiful beach, and enjoy a lively nightlife.”

The city ranked second is Bangkok, Thailand. Time Out said Bangkok “has long been a popular city for travelers from around the world.”

He added, “It has all the qualities a great city should have,” adding, “It is friendly, rich in culture, and full of iconic landmarks such as the royal palace.” They also reported that travelers who visited Bangkok commonly liked the food.

Third place went to New York, USA, which was first last year. He explained, “It is a city with impressive world-class culture and art, and is still exciting to many travelers.”

Following them were Melbourne, Australia, in fourth place, and London, England, in fifth place. The remaining five cities in the top 10 were New Orleans in the United States, Mexico City in Mexico, Porto in Portugal, Shanghai in China, and Copenhagen in Denmark. Seoul ranked 42nd.

To compile this list each year, Time Out surveys more than 18,500 city residents from around the world and its own panel of 100 experts.

The panel selected the world’s best cities based on factors that attract travelers, including food, culture, economy, livability and overall city vibe. Time Out then combined all of this data and created a ranking.
