After five years of development, Huawei has managed to deliver the world’s first tri-fold smartphone to the market. The price tag isn’t that inviting, but the Mate XT has already received more than 3.6 million pre-orders.
The technology hub of Shenzhen, in southern China, was the stage for the presentation of the new Mate XT, Huawei's tri-folding smartphone, highly anticipated by technology enthusiasts, who knew little about the device until yesterday.
Today, we bring you a product that everyone can think about but could not make. Our team has been working hard for five years and never gave up.
We dare to make extraordinary discoveries. Today, we will once again rewrite industrial history, turn science fiction into reality, and usher in a new era of foldable devices.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, reinforced during the launch.
Tri-folding won't suit everyone's budget
Huawei showed the world the result of five years of development just hours after Apple's event, which brought, among other news, the new iPhone 16. Interestingly, both smartphones will go on sale on September 20.
Touted as the world's thinnest foldable smartphone by Huawei, measuring 3.6mm wide when unfolded, the Mate XT has a 10.2-inch display.
Additionally, it is available in red and black, with three storage options. The smartphone can display content on a single screen, a dual screen or a triple screen.
The price of this tri-fold makes it almost exclusive, starting at 19,999 yuan (about 2,544 euros). According to analysts, Reutersthis value may not make it a sales leader, but rather a technological reference.
Despite the price tag, Huawei's tri-fold Mate XT has already received over 3.6 million pre-orders. Interestingly, the global market for foldable smartphones was around four million units in the second quarter, according to IDC.
