“There has been a national IT malfunction,” the spokesman for the German police said by phone, adding that the police are currently the data of passengers arriving from outside the Schengen area are processed manually. The cause of the malfunction is currently unknown.
At many airports, including Frankfurt International Airport, which is considered to be the busiest, snaking queues formed at the border control.
It was also confirmed from Berlin that the waiting time at the immigration office at the airport has increased considerably.
According to a report by the German public service media company WDR many passengers had to wait two hours to get in, while others were kept on the plane.
