The Houthi rebels from Yemen attacked the center of Tel Aviv with a drone on Friday morning, according to the Israeli rescue service, the flying device killed one person and wounded ten.

The drone crashed in the city center, near the intersection of Ben Yehúda and Sálóm Aléhem Streets, near the United States Embassy, ​​around three o’clock in the morning. The fatal victim was a man in his 50s, three were injured by shrapnel, a fourth victim was injured by the impact of the drone, and the others suffered minor injuries.

Cachi Heller, the spokesperson of the Israeli Ambulance Service, said that the paramedics who quickly arrived at the scene first took four injured people to the hospital, three of whom were injured by glass fragments scattered by the explosion, several others in their homes. Four panicked victims were treated and the dead body was discovered later in one of the buildings close to the explosion. The explosion of the drone could also be heard in the cities around Tel Aviv, Rishon-Lezijon, Givat-Smuel, Holon, Ramat-Gan and Givat-Hájim. There was no air raid warning in Tel Aviv before the explosion.

The mayor of Tel Aviv, Ron Huldai, announced that the municipality is on high alert after the drone attack, and called for compliance with the authorities’ instructions. “The war is still present, it is difficult and painful,” he said.

The spokesman for the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen, Yahija Szarie, announced in a statement that they had launched the drone. He added that they would continue their operations against Tel Aviv in solidarity with the Palestinians facing Israel in the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip. “The operation has ended successfully. We will continue to attack deep inside Israel on all fronts, including sensitive targets and infrastructure. We support Gaza and the entire Arab world,” said the spokesperson. According to Houthi reports, a Yemeni-made Jaffa drone penetrated Israel’s air defense system.

Saudi Arabia’s al-Arabiya news channel reported that the Houthis launched a ballistic missile and four drones, but US forces stationed in the area intercepted the missile and three drones.
