(Health Korea News / Yoo Ji-in) As the medical crisis that has continued for several months has increased public inconvenience and raised concerns about health insurance spending, the amount of advertising expenditures by the government this year in the name of medical reform is 45% of the total expenditure. It was found to reach %.

According to the advertising expenditure status data submitted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare by Rep. Seo Young-seok of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, there were 263 cases of advertising expenditures related to medical reform from January to August of this year, and the amount exceeded 7.7 billion won. This corresponds to 44.7% of the total advertising expenditure amount of 17.4 billion won during the same period, and 46% (263 out of 572) based on the number of advertisements.

Rep. Seo Young-seok said, “After the government announced the expansion of medical school seats by 2,000 on February 6th of this year, the medical crisis began in earnest due to the departure of residents and refusal of medical students to take classes, and from February 27th, ‘It is not that we have expanded the number of students in medical schools, it is that we are late. “We started advertising about medical reform in earnest with the slogan ‘This is it,’ and ran 263 advertisements for about six months and spent 7.773 billion won in advertising expenses,” he said.

Rep. Seo’s comments are interpreted to mean that the government’s unreasonable push to increase the number of medical school students wasted unnecessary taxpayers’ money.

The medium with the largest number of advertisements was print media, accounting for 46% (121). Next was broadcasting (19.8%, 52 cases) and the Internet (16.3%, 43 cases). Based on the amount of advertising expenses spent, KRW 2.553 billion was spent on broadcast advertising, accounting for the largest share at 32.8%, followed by Internet (KRW 2.172 billion, 27.9%) and outdoor media (KRW 1.444 billion, 18.6%). It was.

While nearly half of all advertising resources were invested in advertisements related to medical reform, other advertisements were relatively neglected compared to previous years. In particular, there was little publicity of policies related to emergency welfare, living allowances, and basic pension that the Yoon Seok-yeol government put forward while emphasizing the welfare of the weak. Not a single emergency welfare advertisement was published until August of this year, and there was only one basic pension advertisement. Rep. Seo Young-seok points out that resources are not being invested for the socially underprivileged due to the medical crisis caused by the government’s hard-line policy enforcement.

Rep. Seo Young-seok said, “The essence and purpose of government advertising is to promote the welfare and interests of the entire people, but the Yoon Seok-yeol government’s advertising execution behavior only focuses on asserting that they are not at fault for the medical crisis they caused, and does not play a role for the socially vulnerable and the entire community. “The butterfly effect caused by the medical crisis is leading to waste of taxpayers’ money and alienation of the vulnerable,” he criticized.
