Theater 21 in Iasi hosts electrifying live performances on October 5

Platform MELODY awaits the residents of Iasi who are passionate about futuristic sounds at the space in the center of the capital of Moldova, for a series of concerts, a DJ set and a musical improvisation workshop.

Some of the most interesting live artists from the Romanian underground will perform in the evening of Saturday, October 5 the Theater 21. The event will start at 21.00 and will include three concerts – deathbycoconut (krautrock), Puffincat (experimental music) and flaxen (electronic music) -, a brand DJ set Nitchji Oh and an improvisation workshop led by the same musicians. The workshop is open to all participants, and the event is free.

Platform MELODY makes a stopover in the city of the seven hills on this occasion, after organizing events with a similar concept – bringing together almost 30 live performers and DJs with unconventional practices and sensibilities – in the last month Timisoara, Brașov, Bucharest and the German city Hamburg.

Who are the organizers?

MELODIY is a cultural project that aims to amplify the independent scene in Romania through concerts, workshops and related events that focus on innovative practices and artistic niches underrepresented in the local offer. The platform will continue the series of special music events with a return to HEI center FROM Timisoaraon October 12, before arriving at Atelier Cafe FROM Cluj on November 6.

Oriented towards new methods of composition and performance, MELODIY proposes an exploration ground for extravagant sound potentials. Although they cross a multitude of musical styles, the artists who will perform on October 5 at Teatrul 21 have in common the intuition for sonorities that make the body dance, coagulated around the experimental spirit and DIY (abbreviation of the phrase do it yourselfthat is do it yourself).

Theater 21 is, thus, an ideal partner in the above-mentioned circuit: the space in Anastasia Panu 27 hosted the events this year NOISEdescribed by the organizer Stefan Botezatu (who will perform under the name Puffincat at the MELODIY event on October 5) as a series that aims to bring to Iași names that have not arrived here yet, musical projects with great notoriety in the hipster underground in Bucharest or elsewhere.

Who are the guest artists?

deathbycoconut is a band made up of five musicians from Bucharest, active both solo and in other group projects: Suce Fraga (vocals, bass, keyboards), Nitchji Oh (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Domnul Valentin (drums), Horațiu Șerbănescu/ Plevna (keyboards, guitar, bass) and Alex Bălă (keyboards). They combine krautrock, electronica, post punk and a palette of non-western influences in a sonic universe impossible to frame.

Puffincat is one of the aliases of the musician Ștefan Botezatu from Iesău, active so far on the independent scene in projects such as Poetrip and Fanfara Extraterestră. He uses electric guitar, synthesizer and other devices to build a melange of pink noise, psychedelic drones and ambient music.

flaxen he is part of the collective deathbycoconut and the queer act #FLUID and composes for theater, film, performance, installations, etc. In his live performances, he mixes different conventions of body music with an irresistible attraction to melodrama and maximalism.

Nitchji Oh Sperantza self-described as born in suffering. In all the time since then, he’s racked up enough hits to drown out the sounds of despair. Accomplished singer-songwriter belonging to deathbycoconut, he will move emotions to the rhythm of the unstoppable dance of history.
