The enforcement officer helps the Pensions Authority find and request the return of the hundreds of millions of kroner that were wrongly paid out. Last year, it was about SEK 179 million in recoveries.

– We deepened the collaboration in the spring of 2023, it has been very successful, says the Swedish Pensions Agency’s director general Anna Pettersson Westerberg in an interview in The newspaper Näringslivet.

Much of the benefits that are paid out, such as housing allowance and guarantee pension, are based on how people state that they live – information that is not always correct. It is when the enforcement officer visits homes that they most often discover fraud. For example, it may turn out that there are assets in the residence that you did not declare, or that there are more people living there than what was stated. This can result in you being awarded grants you are not entitled to.

So far this year, the collaboration has resulted in over 100 cases and stopped future payments of a total of SEK 24 million, which is significantly more than in previous years.
