“There are brilliant losers”: Yamburg explained whether a school can refuse to enroll in 10th grade

The expert believes that high school is a place where not all children will feel comfortable.

Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Director of Moscow School No. 109 Evgeniy Yamburg in conversation with the publication nn.ru stated that for some children, studying in the 10th and 11th grades may be a waste of valuable time. According to the specialist, some students have difficulty mastering the standard high school curriculum, and in the senior classes the situation can become even worse.

“The fact that he will definitely not finish 10th and 11th grade and will waste time is absolutely clear to professionals,” Yamburg noted.

The teacher believes that it is better to go to college early than to later fail the Unified State Exam and lose two years of life. At the same time, Yamburg recognizes that among schoolchildren there are individualists and talents who require a special approach and attitude from teachers.

“There are, you know, children who… I call them brilliant losers. Einstein, as you know, was a C student, incapable of mastering the standard program, but became a great scientist. Meyerhold was generally a truant, and Chekhov was in the same class for three years. We need a flexible approach,” the teacher emphasized.

The teacher reminded that the educational system should be flexible and adapt to the student. Going to college or passing the Unified State Exam in 11th grade are equal, equally important things.

“Without closing any path, we must create such a flexible system so that not a single child goes missing,” Yamburg is sure.

Among other things, the Honored Teacher of Russia called on parents and teachers not to put pressure on the child. Ultimately, the choice always remains with the student himself.

“The representatives of the child decide today. These are the parents or persons replacing them. But they may be blind. So they want to go somewhere, but he (the child) doesn’t need to go there. Therefore, it is not individual people who should decide, but there must be a flexible system that allows the child not to waste time,” Yamburg added.

Previously, RosBalt told how schoolchildren and their parents could spend the autumn holidays with interest.
