Italy is among the first countries in Europe to use virtual reality to improve road safety. It happens on the A35 Brebemi-Aleaticawhere since 2023 AI has been used to train road traffic managers and now it is time for a first assessment. To date they have already been involved approximately 150 workerswith the aim of making training courses more efficient, as close to reality and engaging as possible.
One will also be introduced shortly complete virtual reproduction of the A35 Brebemi motorway which will allow staff to simulate interventions and operations directly in an environment that faithfully reproduces the motorway network, further improving operations management and safety.
How the lessons are held
Virtual reality is used by the staff of the A35 Brebemi and by the traffic managers of Argentea to replicate the most delicate activities in the management of roads and also “routine” ones, such as the installation and removal of signs, in a safe and controlled environment.
Insiders use Meta virtual reality glassesa headset and two joysticks and virtual reality is also used for non-mandatory training, so workers can face high-risk situations in a protected environment, increasing their ability to handle complex situations.
Many advantages
In the press note we read that the philosophy that guides this type of training, in collaboration with the experts of Contec AQS, “is based on a profound knowledge of the needs of the personnel active in this area, with personalized courses to develop not only technical skills, but also soft skills, in line with current safety regulations (Legislative Decree 81/08 and State/Regions Agreement). The adoption of virtual reality responds to the need to make courses more practical and engaging, as well as facilitating learning document management e the issuing of certificates“.
“The use of virtual reality represents an important step forward towards a future in which training is increasingly interactive and effective, for the benefit of all those who operate along the A35 and users of the motorway itself”, commented Matteo Milanesi, General Director of A35 Brebemi.
