On Boxing Day, 52 burglaries were reported to the police, and this is the third day in a row with fewer reported burglaries than the same time last year.
This is shown by figures from the National Police.
On Christmas Eve, the police received 50 reports about uninvited guests. On Christmas Day it was 67, and on Boxing Day it was 52. On the same dates last year, there were 61, 105 and 61 burglary reports respectively.
The figures look reasonable, believes Christian Berthelsen, who is a police assistant at the National Police.
“We are lower in terms of the total number of burglaries now than last year, but there may still be people who have traveled away and who have therefore not returned home and managed to report a possible burglary”, he says to Ritzau.
The police describe it as a Christmas break-in if it happened from 19 December. In the eight days that have passed, 401 burglaries have been reported across the country.
In comparison, 429 burglaries were reported in the same period last year.
The police assistant points out that you can increase the probability of getting your valuables back – and at the same time help the police – if you label your items.
“In the past, we burned or scratched things to mark them. But today we can get something that is completely invisible, but where we can still check where found objects come from,’ says Christian Berthelsen.
You can find examples of the invisible marking by searching for, for example, ‘DNA marking’ or ‘marking during burglary’.
