On Saturday, November 16, the threat of flooding loomed over St. Petersburg. This was announced by the head of the St. Petersburg Hydrometeorological Center Alexander Kolesov.
According to him, the Northern capital lived quietly for more than a year without floods, but today a strong wind from the south-west and west with gusts of 25-28 m/s will pass through the waters of the Gulf of Finland and by the evening will push the water towards St. Petersburg.
The meteorologist predicted that late in the evening – around 22:00 – 00:00 – wind flooding is possible in the city on the Neva. At the same time, the specialist reassured St. Petersburg residents, saying that the threat of flooding would not last long. Kolesov predicted that in the second half of the night of November 17, the water would begin to recede and the wind would weaken. However, the water level in St. Petersburg on Sunday will remain elevated – up to 1 m.
Earlier, a “yellow” level of weather danger was announced in St. Petersburg due to storm winds. The Ministry of Emergency Situations warned that gusts would reach 20 m/s.
