Dr. Interim Government Advisory Council headed by Yunus
Mahfuz Alam is an important name in the advisory board of the current interim government. First was Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in the status of Adviser. Later he was made a full advisor by the government, but was not given the responsibility of any ministry. He is working as one of the principal advisors to the Chief Advisor.
That Mahfuz Alam posted on his own Facebook on Monday the government’s priority work list. Along with their own current work priorities. But the next national parliament election was not included in the priority list.
Advisor Mahfuz Alam has listed 9 tasks as the government’s priority. These are the preparation of the list of the martyrs and injured of the July coup, their treatment and long-term rehabilitation with financial assistance to the family members of the martyrs, the trial of the July massacre, the trial of disappearances and murders and financial looting in the last 16 years and the return of smuggled money, ensuring the safety of people’s lives and goods and affordable prices of goods. Keeping, realistic reforms of various institutions of the state based on national consensus, streamlining important sectors including education, health and information technology, jobs and initiatives for the young generation. Ensuring equality, adopting an economy favorable to people, life and environment instead of the previous government’s so-called development economy and ensuring transparency, accountability and public participation in government activities.
Apart from the government, Mahfuz Alam also talked about their current five priorities. Those actions are purely policy matters. In only one place, he said that the process of transfer of power and the reform of the electoral system should be left to the judgment of the people.
The list of priorities expressed by this influential adviser does not mention holding elections. No one is aware of any meeting of the Advisory Council to formulate this priority of government work. Mahfuz Alam wrote that it is the government’s priority.
Chief advisor. According to Muhammad Yunus, the election can be held between December this year or June 2026. His press secretary has dismissed the possibility of elections by December this year. He said the election will be held by June 2026.
But the priority work revealed by advisor Mahfuz Alam is almost impossible to implement by June 2026. In fact, morally, the responsibility of implementing these tasks rests on the elected political government. If the interim government wants to implement these tasks, they will have to stay in power for a long time. So the election will not be held in 2026? This unelected interim government wants to stay in power longer? This question has been raised in the political arena after the latest Facebook post of Advisor Mahfuz Alam.
