There was an explosion on the European Parliament train

An explosion occurred on the train that was taking MEPs from Strasbourg to Brussels – writes at Politico.

The politicians had just boarded their chartered Eurostar train departing at 14:57 when the explosion occurred. After that, all the representatives were evacuated to the main hall of the Strasbourg station. It is understood that no one was injured in the incident, in any case Left-wing MEP Pelle Geertsen described the situation as chaotic.

According to the press service of the European Parliament, there was no assassination attempt, the statement reports on a technical incident. They added that they are in contact with the relevant authorities and are looking for alternative means of transport. In Elviek, another train left around 6:30, and a third one will leave around 8-9 in the evening, but there are people who took a taxi in the meantime.

Overall, Bas Eickhout, co-chairman of the Greens, concluded that the disruption was “a good opportunity to reach out to all those I haven’t spoken to this week”. Parliamentary official Guillaume Pringiers warned the representatives to calm down.
