Heavy downpours will develop with storms Saturday night through Saturday morning. At the same time, an increase in torrential water currents and floods is possible.

In the northeast and north and northeast of the country, small local showers and storms started to appear after 15:00, which will continue into the evening, according to meteorologists. Storms will become more frequent at night and will spread over most of Slovenia by morning. Heavy downpours will occur.

“These days there are many outdoor events, many of you are camping outdoors by watercourses. We urge everyone to monitor the events at night and retreat to safety if necessary.” they urged on the pages of the Slovenian Environment Agency.

Locally, up to 170 millimeters can fall

On Saturday night and Saturday morning, torrential watercourses and smaller rivers will rise rapidly, especially in northern and central Slovenia, but also in other parts of the country. Tomorrow will be cloudy at first with precipitation, partly thunderstorms. There will still be showers. During the day, precipitation will weaken from the west and gradually stop. It will clear up towards evening. In some places, the wind will blow from the east, in Primorska a weak gale. The lowest morning temperatures will be from 16 to 21, in Primorska around 23, the highest daytime temperatures from 21 to 25, in Primorska around 30 °C.

On the pages of Neurje.si, however, they warn that a weather disturbance will pass us on the night of Saturday, when the action will be most intense. “Multicellular storms will appear in areas where we can expect heavy downpours, but hail is not ruled out (the probability is small, but not ruled out). Meteorological models currently indicate that most of the precipitation will fall in the northern half of Slovenia, where over 100 liters of rain can fall in 6 hours square meter. The most recent increase in the total amount of precipitation in the northeast of Slovenia is as much as 170 l/m2 (in 12 hours), which is an extremely high value and we should be very careful about the hydrological situation. In the northern part of the country, we can expect torrential floods and overflows of some watercourses.”
