Google is coming soon with Android Automotive 15. The update introduces a number of useful features and we will take you through them.
Android Automotive 15: what’s new
Android Automotive is getting a major update, website discovered Android Authority. Although Google has not yet officially unveiled Android Automotive 15, the most important new features have been discovered. It is not clear when exactly the update will be released to the general public.
It is important to know that this is Android Automotive, and not Android Auto. With Android Auto you can use smartphone apps such as Google Maps and Spotify safely in the car, but Automotive goes one step further. This software is fully integrated into the car.
The Android Automotive update is based on Android 15, which will be released for smartphones and tablets in a while. The most important new features for on the road are discussed below.
Bluetooth Headphones and More
In Android Automotive 15 it is possible to connect a wireless bluetooth headset to the operating system. It was already possible to connect a phone to Automotive to stream music, but now this also works ‘the other way around’.
You can connect headphones, so a passenger can listen to music or podcasts in peace, for example – while the driver focuses on the road. It can also come in handy if you want to entertain children on a long car journey.
Android Automotive also gets a dock, where you can pin your favorite apps. This feature is currently missing from the software. With the dock you can open applications quickly and easily.
Ambient-modus
In addition, an ‘ambient view’ (or Ambient mode) is coming to the operating system. You may know this function from the Chromecast with Google TV. If you are not using Android Automotive for a while, a screensaver and, for example, weather information will appear on the screen.
Finally, there are smaller improvements in Android Automotive 15. For example, the update supports DAB and HD radio standards and there is an option to always be able to use Automotive’s wifi hotspots. However, not much information is known about it.
