Xiaomi has presented a new generation of folding phones. It concerns the Mix Flip and the Mix Fold 4 that will appear first in China and may then also come to the Netherlands.
Xiaomi Mix Flip official: first flip phone
Starting with the Xiaomi Mix Flip: the manufacturer’s first folding phone that folds from a ‘normal’ phone into a compact package. With this, Xiaomi is competing with phones like the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. Xiaomi’s Flip is at least as richly equipped as those competitors.
The large screen on the inside has a diagonal of 6.86 inches and folded you see the screen of 4.01 inches. This also runs around the cameras on the back. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip on board you are in almost every situation.
The battery with a size of 4780mAh is striking. This is a lot bigger than what we see in competing flip phones. The Mix Flip also charges quickly: 67 watts wired and 50 watts wireless. For the latter you do need a special Xiaomi charger. The smartphone comes with a maximum of 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space.
The lenses on the back of the Flip both have a 50 megapixel resolution. You use the main camera in most circumstances and to take photos from closer up you use the telephoto lens. This magnifies up to two times. Finally, the Flip comes with Android 14 and the latest version of HyperOS, including handy AI functions.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 official: full of nice innovations
In addition to Xiaomi’s first flip, the manufacturer is already coming with the fourth fold-phone. The Mix Fold 4 transforms again from ‘normal’ phone to small tablet. The outer amoled screen has a size of 6.56 inches and unfolded you have a screen of 7.98 inches at your disposal.
The Fold also runs on the smooth Snapdragon chip and can therefore continue all day. The battery has a size of 5100 mAh and also charges with 67 watts wired or 50 watts wirelessly. The housing is also thinner than the previous foldables: folded about 9.47 millimeters. That is less than a millimeter thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (8.6 mm).
The Fold has four cameras on the back: a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, a 10-megapixel periscope lens and a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, all developed in collaboration with Leica. There are also 20-megapixel selfie cameras in both screens. So you won’t run out of cameras anytime soon.
The Fold 4 also runs on Android 14 with the Hyper OS skin. Both phones are better cooled with internal vapor chambersThe hinges have also become a lot stronger and can open and close up to 500,000 times. That is the equivalent of about 274 times a day, for five years.
Are the Xiaomis coming to the Netherlands?
The price of the devices is as follows: the Mix Flip is available from 760 eurothe Mix Fold 4 from about 1140 euro. The prices are converted from the Chinese recommended prices and are without additional costs and VAT. Whether Xiaomi also brings the phones to Europe is still unknown. With previous phones, the manufacturer skipped this.
