Ukrainian drone forces never cease to amaze with their methods and ideas for neutralizing Russian military equipment. We have seen many times that these drones are ideal for attacking soldiers, tanks, armored personnel carriers, and even military facilities.

However, we have not been able to see it so far an airplane or helicopter destroyed by a drone. Only some time ago, it was possible to neutralize a helicopter standing on the airport runway. Now, however, there has been a major breakthrough. Ukrainian drone operators managed to locate and approach to within a few dozen meters of a flying Russian helicopter.

Mi-8 carried out missions in occupied territories Ukrainy. His task was to shoot unguided missiles on Ukrainian positions. The machine was flying very low to the ground, making it an ideal target for a kamikaze drone. Unfortunately, drones equipped with explosives fly a bit more slowly. They cannot reach higher speeds, and therefore cannot catch up with a helicopter or maneuver effectively.

In any case, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are very pleased with the implementation of this unique action. Namely, it shows that in the future, after improving drones, it will be possible to attack Russian helicopters. However, to increase the effectiveness of such missions, it is necessary equip drones with grenades containing tungsten ballswhich will make it possible to cause significant damage to the helicopter, possibly causing it to crash.

Mi-8 is one of the most popular multi-role helicopters. Low flights and evasions are a piece of cake for it. The machine can boast of great durability and reliability. Ukrainians and Russians currently use Mi-8s, among others, in the Kharkov, Luhansk, Donetsk and Kherson regions, where they can transport soldiers or equipment, and even carry out attacks on enemy positions.

The Mi-8 helicopter was developed in the Mikhail Mil design office in the early 1960s, i.e. even in the times of the Soviet Union. They were intended to replace the lighter Mi-4 helicopters. The first Mi-8 flights took place in 1961, and serial production began four years later.

It can accommodate a crew of 3 people.as well as 30 soldiers, 12 stretchers, 4,000 kilograms of cargo inside or 5,000 kilograms suspended outside. As for the engines, these are two Klimov TW2-117 turboshafts with a power of 1,105 kW each. The Mi-8 can fly at a maximum speed of 250 km/h, at an altitude of up to 4,500 meters and at a distance of about 450 kilometers. Over 17 thousand machines of this type have been produced so far.
