They drive a new electric car at half the price

At the end of 2022, the bonus on cars, which was supposed to make more people choose an electric car or a plug-in hybrid, was scrapped.

Since then, the sale of electric cars has, for several reasons, taken a serious hit, and many car owners in Sweden say that the prices of electric cars are an obstacle to buying one.

However, there are some who still get a hefty bonus, and can drive a new electric car for half the price. It reports Carpwho has spoken to the expert Carl-Erik Stjernvall på Riksförbundet M Sweden.

New electric car for half the price

The reason why it is still very beneficial for some to drive an electric car is that the tax subsidies for companies are still there, while there is no longer any bonus for private individuals.

This means that the person who has a company car can drive an electric car for half the cost compared to the person who gets an equivalent car privately.

– The company can buy or lease cars, the person you hire gets this benefit. The company does not receive a direct subsidy, it is the users, those who have a job that includes a company car, have the opportunity to row home this profit, the company does not win from this more than an argument that you can offer cheap benefit cars, says Carl Erik Stjernvall to Carup.

According to the expert, it will be a low cost for the employee, which is a benefit that an ordinary private person never has the opportunity for.

That’s how it works

It all works in that the person who has a company car can deduct a standard amount from the price of the car, and thus be taxed on a significantly lower amount.

– If the car costs SEK 700,000, a standard amount of SEK 350,000 is deducted and the result is that the beneficiary makes a profit that is roughly the same as the electric car bonus was before, says Carl Erik Stjernvall to Carup. More specifically, it is about SEK 50,000.

Nobody knows what it costs

At the same time, no authority has the tools or the mandate to investigate how much these tax subsidies cost, which the expert sees as strange.

M Sweden, however, does not want the subsidies for electric cars for company car drivers to end. Rather, they think it is unfair that they are not available to private individuals.

– We want everyone to be able to take part in this, it would also help us with the goal of reducing emissions by 70 percent from 2010 to 2030, says Carl Erik Stjernvall to Carup.
