BarcelonaIt was only fifteen minutes past twelve at night on January 1st. And the action happened only 500 meters from Avinguda Maria Cristina, the space that Barcelona dressed up to celebrate the arrival of 2025. While 120,000 people toasted to celebrate the change of the year, a thief entered a house on the Bordeta road, in the Sants-Montjuïc district. The alarm went off. He was trying to commit the first armed robbery of the year in Barcelona and, after a police chase, he ended up hiding in a sofa bed.
According to ARA, the Mossos d’Esquadra received an alert on January 1st at 00.15 hours due to the alarm sounding inside this home. A patrol of plainclothes officers who were in the area approached. At that moment, the man tried to run away, but ended up trapped inside a cellobert. The Mossos saw him and managed to get down there with the help of the firemen. But the matter did not end there.
The detention
At that moment, when he saw that the police were approaching, the thief forced open a door of the cellobert that led to a local and continued to flee. But he did not go outside, but decided to enter and steal in another apartment in the same block. When he heard that the police were also entering this flat and that they were still following his steps, he decided to hide. Finally, the agents located him hiding inside the couch of a bed. The thief could do nothing to avoid arrest.
The Mossos arrested him: he was a 42-year-old man with many repeat offenders. According to police sources, he has 36 previous records. Now he is charged with three more crimes of aggravated robbery: one in the first house, one in the premises next to the celobert and the last one in the canapè flat. In total, he had taken 960 euros in cash and jewelry.
