They had to turn off the traffic camera because it is so effective that the officers could not process all the orders

The German town of Boholt is located near the border with the Netherlands. Last year, a new radar system was installed there, which recorded twice as many speeding incidents as before. The new camera for measuring and sanctioning speeding recorded violations so often that city officials could no longer process all the orders. Because of this, the camera was turned off for a while.

Registered speed violations in the city of Boholt have more than doubled, city representative Karsten Terstegen told wa.de.

As he states HAK magazine, in 2023, 12,000 drivers were recorded in the city. The city of Boholt collected a total of 460,000 euros in fines in 2023. But numerous violations also meant more work for the employees. In addition, as Terstegen explains, the city is understaffed. The speed radar system therefore had to be temporarily switched off.

Trailers with cameras are gray, armored – and drivers don’t like them. They record in both directions, and one segment can even be removed and placed somewhere else. Otherwise, after several months of inactivity, the camera is working again.
