Chery has decided to do things seriously in Italy and has launched its new brand Jaecoo with the compact SUV 7. The vehicle, 450 cm long, is available with front or all-wheel drive and stands out for its design recalls some Land Rover modelsespecially in the profile and tail.
The Jaecoo 7 is positioned in the premium compact SUV segment, focusing on quality finishes and advanced technological equipment. The launch of this model marks the entry of a new player into the competitive Italian automotive market, with the aim of gaining market share by offering an excellent quality-price ratio.
Well-kept and technological interiors
The interior of the Jaecoo 7 surprises with its construction care and the materials used. Soft and well-assembled plastics cover not only the dashboard, but also the front and rear door panels. The digital instrumentation consists of a 10.3″ dashboard and a vertical touch display 13.2″ (14.8″ in the 4×4 version) for the infotainment system, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless.
The climate controls they are concentrated in a touch bar always visible at the bottom of the screen, while those on the steering wheel are less intuitive. Roominess is generous, with ample space for rear passengers, who can also electrically adjust the front passenger seat to obtain even more legroom.
Motorization and performance
The Jaecoo 7 is equipped with a 147 HP 1.6 turbo petrol enginealready seen on the Omoda 5. The performances are not particularly brilliant and the consumption is quite high: the company claims 13.3 km/l, but to exceed 10 km/l it is necessary to adopt a particularly calm driving style. An LPG version is expected to arrive in early 2025.
The seven-speed dual-clutch robotised gearbox proves smooth and responsive. Driving dynamics are affected by the size and weight of the vehicle, with insensitive steering and marked body roll when cornering at high speed. Ride comfort is compromised on rough roads, with evident jolts in the presence of pronounced potholes.
We also had the opportunity to try it off-road and the feedback was more than positive. Although it is not a specific model for use away from the asphalt, the Jecoo 7 has 7 driving modessome of which are specific to overcome the pitfalls of some of the most common driving situations and conditions. There was a lot of mud on the ground, yet the traction always supported the car more than excellently, allowing her to get out of even rather challenging situations.
Rich equipment and competitive price
The front-wheel drive Jaecoo 7 has a list price of 33,900 euroswhich makes it competitive considering the finishes and standard equipment.
With a surcharge of 4,000 euros, the Exclusive 4WD version is available for 37,900 euros. In addition to all-wheel drive, it offers seven driving modes, a heated steering wheel and windshield, an upgraded Sony audio system, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats
Security is a strong point, with otto airbag, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane keeping. The warranty is 7 years or 150,000 km.
