They must apply by September 26

From time to time the Swedish Tax Agency issues calls to the public. It can be about everything from declaring on time and paying back tax to not missing out on applying for a name change on marriage.

During the year, the state authority has urged private individuals neither to miss the payment date of the residual tax, nor to check the account details so that the refund goes to the right account.

However, those who receive the tax notice and are told that they have to pay back tax then have a date to adhere to. However, the date when the money must be with the authority is governed by when you declared and then received your final tax statement.

In August, they went out and shared the call that all those who must pay residual tax by September 12, 2024, needed to have made the payment so that the money reached the Tax Agency’s account by then.

The dates that apply for payment of residual tax for the return in 2024 are:

  • 12 July 2024: If you received a final tax notice in April.
  • 12 September 2024: If you received a final tax notice in June.
  • 12 November: If you receive a final tax notice in August.
  • 12 March 2025: Whether you will receive a final tax notice in December.

The Swedish Tax Agency: Important details when you move

Recently, they also shared what is important to consider when moving. Most people know that you need to register the correct civil registration address. But it is important for several reasons that registration takes place in good time.

– Keep in mind that the move needs to be done within a week of moving. However, it is fine to submit your application well in advance. Then the notification is dormant and is registered at the move date, has Jens Lindqvistbusiness developer within population accounting issues at the Swedish Tax Agency said in a previous interview with News24.

The reason for being out in good time is, among other things, so that you have time to correct any errors. It is also connected to the fact that important mailings such as official mail, bills or other things that are considered important end up wrong if you do not have correct information in your accounting.

The Swedish Tax Agency: They must apply – no later than September 26

In addition to informing and urging private individuals from time to time, it also happens that the Swedish Tax Agency targets companies and entrepreneurs directly.

They have done that now. On September 20, they shared a call on their homepage which refers to the companies that had deferred tax payments during the corona pandemic.

“For those companies that had deferred tax payments, as a result of the corona pandemic, which fell due on September 12, 2024, the last day to apply for an installment plan is September 26, 2024,” they write.

In cases where you as a company manager need to extend the installment plan in order not to risk jeopardizing the business, this must be submitted to the Swedish Tax Agency no later than September 26, 2024. Should the deferral instead refer to VAT that is reported per calendar year, the application must instead have been sent no later than January 27 2025.

They may not apply for a new extension

The companies that did not have a deferment during the last two full years also have the opportunity to apply for a deferment again.

“The companies that have not had a deferment during the entire 2-year period but who now need a deferment of another 36 months with an installment plan can apply for an extension of their deferment until September 26, 2024. The application can be submitted to the Tax Agency via the e-service, email or phoneā€¯.

The deferrals can, for example, refer to tax payments in the form of employer contributions, deducted tax and VAT. However, it is no longer possible to reapply for a temporary deferment for new periods, the authority states in conclusion.
