They’ve been looking for them since January 1st

They were last seen at the Malga Dosson bivouac, in Val San Valentino, at the base of the south face of Carè Alto, on 1 January. Yesterday, they were due to fly back to the UK. But they didn’t, so the family raised the alarm.

Il Trentino Alpine Rescue was activated onAdamelloin a side valley, the Val San Valentinolocated west of Iavrè and lateral to the Rendena Valley, to search two British mountaineers, aged 45 and 46, missing since New Year’s Day.

The latest information dates back to 1 January, when, according to investigations conducted by the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri, the two men were spotted at the Malga Dosson bivouac, at the foot of the south face of the Carè Alto.

The concern began when the two climbers did not show up at the return flightscheduled for January 6. It was then that the family members launched thealarmstarting the search operations. The Alpine and Speleological Rescue teams, coming from the stations of Val Rendena – Busa di Tione and Val del Chiese, took immediate action, starting to search the areas surrounding the bivouac.

The operators explored the paths leading to the Malga Dossonusing vehicles such as pick-ups and quads to facilitate travel in the most difficult to reach areas.

Unfortunately, the adverse weather conditions they are slowing down operations. The heavy snowfalls of the last few days have made it difficult to access the high-altitude areas on foot, while the poor visibility prevents helicopters from taking off to perform a flyover from above. In response to these difficulties, the authorities are evaluating the use of drones of the Fire Brigade.

The situation remains extremely delicate, and rescuers are working tirelessly to complete their mission rescue.
