Pixel Watch? Unrepairable. Apple Watch? Not that simple either. The Pocuter Spectra is a different story. That is a repairable smartwatch for which you only need a screwdriver.
The German Pocuter is the company behind this watch. Spectra is a device that is made for self-programming and customization. This also applies to the outside. The clock may look like the Apple Watch: it is much easier to fix. That is a difficult job for a clock that has a seamless design.
Smartwatch
The watch was developed by the people behind the Pocuter pocket computer, a mini computer that works with Arduino and is as big as your thumb. It has a full-color OLED screen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro-SD, buttons, a microphone, a temperature gauge, an accelerometer and light sensors. It is therefore not a very strange step that it now comes with a ‘hackable’ watch.
It has been in development for three years and is even still in the prototype phase. The gadget uses an Espressif ESP32-S3 processor and offers 8 MB of RAM and 32 MB of flash memory. The Spectra has a 368 x 448 AMOLED screen and a digital crown. You can keep track of your sports with it, you can connect the device to Bluetooth and WiFi and it has sensors to monitor the environment. There is even room for a microSD card.
There is an aluminum version and a stainless steel version. You can easily replace the battery, which is rare in gadgets, especially of this size. Pocuter wants to make everything on the watch repairable/replaceable. Plus, without needing too many tools: a Philips screwdriver is all you need, because the whole thing is secured with seven Philips head screws. No glue, so that also makes repairs easier.
You can now reset the clock Kickstarter for 199 euros and it will be released in July 2025. It has already achieved its target of 30,000 euros.
