The site Holafly has identified the applications that consume the most megabytes of Internet data.

As they point out on the Holafly website, the My Data Manager application was used to test data usage by the most popular applications, and the test was conducted on an iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS and a Xiaomi Redmi 9 phone with Android.

During the testing of each application, first all other applications were shut down and Wi-Fi access was turned off, after which the application was launched and the measurement was started. The application was used for five minutes, and the complete data usage (in megabytes) was recorded in the My Data Manager report.

In summary, the main findings indicate the following:

  • YouTube is the application that “eats” the most internet data, and it consumed 193MB during five minutes of normal use;
  • Snapchat uses 101MB of data every five minutes, the most for any popular social media app;
  • Safari uses 56MP every five minutes and is the most demanding application in the segment of mobile internet browsers;
  • Finally, the AllTrails maps app consumes the most data (155MB every five minutes) among popular travel apps.

Spending on apps like Uber and Google Maps can’t be ignored either. The latest map and traffic information is constantly downloaded during use, leading to high data consumption. So Uber consumes 102MB in five minutes, while Google Maps consumes 87MB.

The Holafly website says that if you don’t have an unlimited plan for mobile internet, you need to pay special attention to your data consumption.
