What about the first Audi A6/S6? It was the successor to the Audi 100 and the first A6 and S6 were even facelifted copies of the last 100, which came on the market in 1991. Just like today, Audi was in the middle of a name change project in the mid-90s. This was because the A8 and the A4 were launched on the market as completely new models, the first as a successor to the A8, the second as the offspring of the 80. The Audi 100 would have to last for a while, but Ingolstadt took advantage of the facelift to add other badges. to stick on. They did have a bit of a problem with the fast version, because the fastest 100 was called S4! As the fastest 80’s S2 and RS2 were baptized. That is why we are dealing with a fast top version that, even when it was still called 100 S4, was available in a five-cylinder and an eight-cylinder variant. The S6, which we found in the classic section of the used car range on this website, is an automatic car. It could also have been a manual gearbox, because just like with the five-cylinder turbo, you had a choice of two transmissions. Of course, all S6s were equipped with four-wheel drive. If you opted for the automatic transmission with the 4.2, you had to make a significant sacrifice in acceleration time. With the manual six-speed gearbox you could blast the ‘sleeper’ from 0 to 100 in 5.9 seconds, this automatic should be able to do it in 7.1 seconds. The S versions of that time were real sleepers, you could hardly see the power loss. This copy is on wheels that you could also get under the car at that time. In addition to this seven-spoke wheel, if you go back in time you will also see S6s with multi-spoke wheels. A trademark of the S6, for example, are white dials, and with this beautiful instrumentation you can also see the beautiful small meters that extend above the center console. The light-colored interior no longer seems equally light everywhere here and there. A closer inspection could of course provide a better picture of this. More than 230,000 kilometers on the clock for this S6 4.2 quattro, which costs less than €13,000, is that a lot of money? Such a V8 obviously costs a fortune to keep it running. And wouldn’t the Audi fan prefer a copy with a five-cylinder turbo engine? Or an Avant? You just have to ask yourself that. In any case, this special occasion gives a nice picture of the times. It is one from the period when Audi really joined BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Not everything was just about five-cylinders and quattro, the spoiled buyer could even go for more: 8 cylinders! The seller talks about 290 hp, we stick to the power as we know it and with which it is also in the books: 280 hp. There was also an even thicker S6 4.2 quattro. That was the S6 plus, and you could only get it as an Avant: with its 326 hp and limited edition, it was a kind of precursor to the first Audi RS6 Avant.
