Los muscle carswith its powerful V8have gone down in history. The last to leave was the Dodge Challenger. Instead, a new retro-inspired model arrives, in electric and hybrid versions powered by a 6-cylinder engine. For fans of the model it is an aberration, but it is already on sale and its configurator is already online.
Upon entering the configuratorthe “fratzonic sound” is reproduced, that is, how the electric version sounds. Plays the sound of a V8 with a spaceship whistleIt’s weird, yes. But even weirder is the possibility that the configurator gives you. get stuck in the trunk and see what the interior of the car would look like when the rear seat backs are folded down to free you.
Kidnapped in your trunk? Yes, but look at that interior
Dodge, for now, only allows the two-door coupe body to be configured (there will be a four-door variant) in an electric version and two trim levels: Scat Pack, and R/T. As a reminder, the Scat Pack develops 670 hp and can do 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds.
As in any self-respecting configurator, we can choose the body colour, the colour of the wheels (yes, they don’t necessarily have to be black), as well as the upholstery and its colour (definitely the red interior, with or without leather, suits it well).
In the interior views, we are in the front seats by default, but if we want to see how the bucket seats look with the carbon fiber interior, instead of being in the rear seats we will be in the trunk.
And we will not see almost anything, as is logical. In the animations section, we will have to click on fold down the rear seats to discover the interior seen from the trunk, as if one had been locked in. And of course, they can be closed again and we will be left in the dark in the trunk.
It is curious, no doubt, but there is an explanation. All passenger cars manufactured after 2002 must have a opening mechanism from inside the trunk integrated to be legal in EU.
It’s not mandatory in Europe, but those who own a Chrysler 300C or a Ford Mustang, for example, will know that we’re referring to that little plastic handle on the trunk that glows in the dark.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) imposed it on September 1, 2001, after years of pressure that was championed by a woman who had been kidnapped, Janette Fennell of San Francisco, and locked in the trunk of her Lexus.
What’s not clear is what Dodge is trying to tell us with that view from the trunk. Even if you get kidnapped, is the interior of the Dodge awesome? Look at the gap between the seats so you can get out through there? I don’t know, it’s all very strange.
