The American Time Magazine has chosen the new speech technology from the Dutch startup Whispp as one of the best inventions of 2024. The technology helps people with voice problems to have a conversation.
The company Whispp from Leiden developed a mobile app that, with the help of AI, converts ‘whispered speech or hoarse speech’ into a natural-sounding voice in real-time. By using AI for the conversion, problems with delay are a thing of the past and it becomes much easier for people with voice problems, such as stuttering, to record a voice message or make a telephone call.
The Whispp app lets users personalize their voice by analyzing previous recordings. The app works for all types of voice conditions, provided the articulation is ‘relatively clear’. Time Magazine features Whispp this week list of the best inventions of the year.
Soon also for everyday conversations
Whispp will soon further expand the app’s capabilities with a live conversation mode, which should also make regular conversations effortless. The Whispp app can be downloaded for free iOS in Android.
