This handy new feature is coming to Google Chrome

Give a Circle to Search command with one click in your Chrome browser with Google Lens. This will soon be possible after a new update for the popular browser, but Chromebooks will also get the function.

It’s been in development for the past few months, but now “Drag to Search,” as the feature is officially called, is showing up in the beta version of ChromeOS 128. The What’s New in Chrome page shows the feature, according to 9to5Google already see, but it is also active in the browser. The Google Lens icon is prominently displayed in the address bar, right next to the star icon for bookmarks.

On a Chromebook, you can select the function with a single click in the address bar, then search, drag, and select with the small Google Lens visor. Once you’ve made your selection, a panel with the search results will appear in the right-hand margin, and you can ask questions about them. You can double-click to adjust the selection field after a search.

Still waiting for Chrome

For Google Chrome browsers, the new feature works a little differently. Google Lens is not in the address bar, but in the drop-down menu at the top right of the browser. The last word of the feature, which is currently called ‘Search this page with Google’, will soon be replaced by ‘Google Lens’. Of course, we have already verified this and in version 126.0. 6478. 185 of Google Chrome on Windows 11, the feature is not yet live.

The lack of the feature in the browser’s search bar doesn’t mean you have to use Google Lens with two clicks every time. You can pin the feature to the taskbar by right-clicking and selecting the pin option.

Google rolled out Circle to Search to Android phones earlier this year. It lets you ask Google something by circling or highlighting a portion of the screen in any Android app and then asking your question. For example, you can find out what brand a particular piece of clothing in a photo is.
