This handy new WhatsApp feature filters out useless messages

WhatsApp is getting a new feature that will act as a filter for your messages and group conversations. You can create lists of your favorite people and groups, and those messages will be shown in the app with the new priority filter.

A new beta version of WhatsApp for Android brings the new ability to organize contacts into special lists. WABetaInfo states that you can add people or your groups to these custom lists, after which you can filter to only see messages from those people or groups.

Endless scrolling for relevant messages and conversations will be a thing of the past. This filter would then appear at the top of your inbox alongside the current chat filters, such as ‘Unread’ and ‘Groups’. You could also give the filter a name yourself.

Also useful for business use

With a few taps on your screen, you have the most important conversations in front of you. For entrepreneurs and companies, the function is also very practical. Creating lists for only business relations or new customers is of course useful if you want to provide effective customer service or, for example, have relations with outstanding invoices together.

Still in development

The function is still in development and will be released to WhatsApp at a later time with an update. It is not yet known when the update will be available for everyone to download. It is obvious that WhatsApp will soon test this filter function with personal lists on iOS first.

WhatsApp is also working on a new button that will let you mark all messages as ‘read’ at once. The feature surfaced this week in a test version of WhatsApp for Android.
