Good news for users of Chromecast with Google TV or a television with Google TV, because useful new features are coming. We will discuss them with you in this article.
New Google TV features coming soon
Google is not only launching the Google TV Streamer this week, but is also announcing new features for existing Google TV devices. This means that you can also benefit from the handy features with an older Chromecast or a television that runs on Google TV. The features are rolling out starting today.
The most important new feature is the smart home panel, which will soon be in the quick settings of your Chromecast with Google TV. If you press the new panel, you can control your smart devices in your home from the couch. Think of smart lights, thermostats and doorbells. Here you will also see the buttons to switch the WiFi or Bluetooth connection on or off, for example.
You will also receive a notification on your television if your smart doorbell registers that someone is at the door. You can simply check this while watching a film or series, so you do not have to pause the content.
Artificial intelligence
It probably won’t surprise you, but AI features are also coming to Google TV. For example, it will be possible to create personalized screensavers, which you see when you are not watching a movie or series. The feature works in a similar way to the AI wallpapers in Android 14. Based on prompts create a beautiful image to show on your television. You can also have your favorite snapshots from your Google Photos library conjured up on the big screen.
Google is also using its AI assistant Gemini to show better overviews of movies and series. These overviews consist of summaries and reviews from users, making it easier to choose something nice to watch.
There will also be features that are less useful in the Netherlands. Google TV Freeplay – which is not available here – will be improved and Google will add a new Sports page to the ‘For you’ tab.
