As our paper also reported, the streets of Gaza were filled with people celebrating. In the first phase of the ceasefire, Hamas proposes the release of 33 hostages, in exchange for Israel to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, including those sentenced to life sentences, with the exception of members of Hamas’ elite commando unit. Furthermore, Israeli troops would withdraw to the border of the Gaza Strip, allowing for the return of displaced Palestinians and increasing the flow of humanitarian aid to the region. As part of the second phase, starting on the 16th, new negotiations would take place on the future management of Gaza, as Israel would request the removal of Hamas from power. Then more hostages could return home. In the third stage, all the hostages would eventually return home, and the long-term plans for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip would also be implemented.
