The world’s first LEGO tram running on a fixed track was presented on Wednesday in Budapest, on Deák Ferenc Square, reports MTI.
The tram named “LEGO-vili” was designed by master builder Balázs Dóczi, and 1.8 million bricks were used for its construction. The six-ton, 11.5-meter-long, two-meter-high and two-meter-wide tram car was completed by about 90 builders in more than 6,800 hours.
The LEGO tram, in addition to being special, also draws attention to the importance of public transport and sustainable transport – said Mayor Gergely Karácsony at the Wednesday press conference presenting the vehicle. BKK also shared a video of the tram on Facebook:
Judit Váraljai-Sipos, LEGO Hungária Kft. and its managing director talked about how the LEGO tram is a milestone for them as well, since it is the first life-sized LEGO vehicle built on a fixed track in the world. Tibor Bolla, BKV Zrt. its CEO added: the world’s first life-sized tram car made of LEGO bricks will be exhibited at Deák Ferenc Square for a month.
He noted that the tram was built in the last two months and also symbolizes the past 137 years, because tram transport in the capital started in November 1887. The tram will not carry passengers, but at the same time anyone can admire the Deákon and place their own cubes on the base plates at the bottom of the tram. The LEGO tram is owned by BKV, BKK, Budapest Brand and LEGO Hungaria Kft. was realized in cooperation.
