Several Swedish mobile operators offer subscriptions with unlimited surfing. This means that you are not limited to a fixed amount of data each month, but can surf exactly as much as you want without thinking about surf pots, buying extra data or wasting saved surf. Or yes, it’s more correct to say what the operators like to convey that it means, but the reality is a bit more complicated than that.
In addition to the fact that “unlimited” should in most cases come with an asterisk that says “okay, it’s quite limited anyway”, different subscriptions differ in terms of maximum speed and how much data can be used outside Sweden’s borders.
If you are thinking about getting a subscription with unlimited surfing, it may be worth skimming through this guide before you decide.
The price information in the guide was taken from the suppliers’ websites in November 2024 and applies to private subscriptions without a commitment period, regardless of any offers.
The information about the subscription is collected from the respective supplier’s website and customer agreement. In cases where information was missing or unclear, it was obtained through anonymous contact with customer support.

The broadband provider Broadband2 also has mobile subscriptions in its range, of which one of the options has unlimited data. For private customers, it is 5G surfing in Telenor’s network that applies, but according to Bredband2, the maximum speed is 100 Mbit/s, to be compared with the speed of up to 1,000 Mbit/s that Telenor claims to offer.
Throttles the speed to 32 Kbit/s at a certain limit
Unlike Telenor, Bredband2 has also limited how much data can actually be used before the speed is throttled. Although there is no daily limit says the agreement that anyone who consumes 600 GB of data in one and the same month can have the speed reduced until the end of the month. In the throttled mode, the speed is no more than a paltry 32 Kbit/s.
100 GB of data in the EU and the US
When traveling in the EU, as well as the UK, US, Thailand and a handful of other countries, data is limited to 100GB. Despite that limitation, Bredband2 has one of the more generous offers for travelers.
I Tele2‘s arsenal, there are three options for those who want a subscription with unlimited data: “Fast”, “Faster” and “Fastest”. Despite the names, there’s more than theoretical top speed that separates them, but we’ll start with that for simplicity.
The cheapest subscription costs SEK 429 and provides a maximum speed of 100 Mbit/s. The intermediate subscription costs SEK 529 and has a maximum speed of 250 Mbit/s, and the most expensive subscription provides a maximum speed of 1,000 Mbit/s for SEK 629 a month.
Cap of 50 GB per day – then reactivation required
Like Chilimobil, Tele2 runs a daily surf cap. Here the limit is 50 GB, and then the user must reply to an SMS to reactivate surfing. Then the amount of data is topped up with 5 GB at a time, so every time these are used up within the same day, surfing must be activated again.
Up to 50 GB in and outside the EU
The cheapest of Tele2’s unlimited subscriptions includes 30 GB of data per month in other EU countries. For the two more expensive subscriptions, 40 and 50 GB per month apply respectively in the EU and a further 27 countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia and Japan. These subscriptions also include 1,000 call minutes from Sweden to the countries where the surf pots apply.
Telenor offers two different mobile subscriptions with unlimited data, where one costs SEK 449 and the other SEK 549. However, they don’t differ in terms of speed or anything else we’re interested in here.
Rather, it’s things like screen insurance and ID protection that make one more expensive than the other. In any case, it is 5G and full speed, according to Telenor up to 1,000 Mbit/s, that applies here.
No throttled speeds
Limitations in the form of maximum data consumption are not something that Telenor seems to deal with. In other words, it should be possible to surf with your unlimited Telenor mobile subscription without having to worry about having your speed throttled.
100 GB on the go
The unlimited mobile subscriptions from Telenor are not as unlimited when you leave Sweden’s borders. Even so, the surfing ceiling is on the move among the higher ones. In the EU/EEA, the USA and a few other countries, you can use 100 GB of data per month with these subscriptions.
