This is the McLaren W1

A day before its official presentation, the first photo of McLaren’s new hypercar leaked. The car is called the W1 and will be produced in a limited run of 399 cars, each costing €2.6 million.

The car will not feature the company’s signature upward-opening doors, but is equipped with gullwing doors. New is the design of the lighting bodies, there will be “floating wings”, air intakes on the hood and vents on the rear pillar. In addition, there are more air intakes in the rear struts and active aerodynamics in the front splitter.

The hypercar is based on an all-new carbon monocoque chassis. The seats are integrated into the frame to reduce weight and increase stiffness, with some suspension components being 3D printed.

The W1 is powered by an all-new plug-in hybrid system, unrelated to any other McLaren. It carries a V8 engine developed in collaboration with Riccardo, while the hybrid system is said to be 70% lighter than Artura’s Formula 1 hybrid unit. The engine produces a combined 1,235 horsepower with 1,340 Nm of torque.

The battery is high density and lighter, derived from McLaren’s F1 car. Still, steering precision is said to be better than ever, with McLaren sticking with hydraulic steering as well as hydraulic suspension.

More detailed information about this we will find out tomorrow.
