We all know that empty pesticide packaging is a serious threat to the environment. The estimated amount of primary packaging waste from plant protection products on an annual level is as much as 1000 – 1200 tons! If we consider that the period of decomposition of plastic packaging is longer than 100 years, the problem of soil pollution is more than critical.

Leakage or natural washing of discarded packaging under the influence of atmospheric pollution additionally pollutes the soil with chemicals from the packaging. It can also come to the contamination of groundwaterand therefore wells and springs.

A large part of packaging waste is still incinerated, which affects air pollution.

Thus, dumping in illegal landfills and burning plant protection packaging can significantly pollute the earth, air and water and have a negative impact on the health of people and animals. That is why it is very important to handle the emptied packaging of plant protection products correctly!

Correct handling of emptied pesticide packaging

  1. Drain the emptied packaging for about 30 seconds.
  2. Fill a third of the container with clean water, close the cap and shake well.
  3. Repeat the procedure at least two more times, until the packaging is visibly clean.
  4. Pour the rinsing liquid into the sprayer and use it together with the prepared treatment solution.
  5. Drill the empty packaging in three places and put it away. The closures are stored separately from the bottles.
  6. Empty packaging from plant protection products is handed over to the authorized operator for waste management twice a year, in the periods May – July and September – November. The exact date and location of the collection of waste packaging is agreed with the specialized operator.

Is the contract between ENVIPACK and the farm binding?

Agreement between PG and ENVIPACK-a it is not mandatory to collect the waste from the waste generator location, but the contract is a document that is required when submitting documentation and applying for subsidies and certificates.

The contract regulates the farm’s obligations (packaging, labeling, temporary storage) and obligations ENVIPACK-a (takeover, transport, documentation and organization of waste disposal) so that every generator of packaging waste from plant protection products has the option of taking over and disposing of the generated waste at their location FREE!
