In the joint mission of NASA and SpaceX, a man can step on the moon again in 2026.
NASA has shared new details about the Artemis 3 mission, the space agency’s next historic moon landing, expected in September 2026. This will be the first time in more than five decades that humans will step on the surface of the moon again. Together with SpaceX, NASA is developing the Human Landing System (HLS), the landing system necessary for landing on the Moon, and new visual designs were also presented. These images depict key steps of the mission and provide insight into the process of landing on the moon.
The Artemis 3 mission is scheduled to launch NASA’s Orion spacecraft into orbit around the Moon, where it will connect with SpaceX’s Starship HLS. Astronauts will transfer from Orion to the Starship HLS, which will take them down to the lunar surface. During the mission, the astronauts conduct various scientific experiments, collect samples, and make observations of the lunar environment. After completing their surface tasks, they return to the Starship, which delivers them to the Orion spacecraft to begin their return to Earth.
NASA plans to use Starship technology for additional missions in the future. For example, in 2032, they intend to send a lunar rover, developed jointly with the Japanese space agency JAXA, which also functions as a residence, to the moon. This mission will also be an important step towards creating a permanent human presence on the celestial body.
With the help of visual plans, the general public can now get to know in more detail the objectives and technological solutions of the Artemis 3 mission, which can fundamentally determine the future exploration of the Moon.
